We have many lovely and friendly animals on our farm. Come and meet them, and let us know your favourite!
Quails
Cornelius and his lady friend Beryl have been at the farm for a couple of years now. Have a peek inside their home to see just how tiny quail eggs are in comparison to chicken eggs!
Chickens
We have two chicken families on the farm for you to visit. Ethel, Penny, and Matilda are the first group you will meet. Ethel is our grand dame, a feisty Leghorn born in 2015. Penny (Burford Brown) and Matilda (Derbyshire Redcap) were both born in 2023, and have been hand-reared by the staff since they were a few weeks old.
Our other chicken family are Darth Vader and Raven, hatched here on the farm in 2016. They are a rare breed in the UK, an Indonesian chicken called Ayam Cemami. They have hyperpigmentation, meaning that their feathers, beaks, and even their organs are black!
Guinea pigs
Our little guinea pig family love cuddles from visitors – check out signage for our free handling sessions and come and meet Pickle (English Crested) and Peanut (Abyssinian), both born in 2023, and Parsley (Peruvian) and Parsnip (Abyssinian), both 2025 babies.
Rabbits
Roger (Harlequin, born 2018) and Honey (Fawn mini lop, born 2022) are a bonded pair who completely love each other and no one else! Inquisitive and intelligent, this gorgeous pair are firm in their personal boundaries. We love them for this!
Goats
Our goat family are the most popular group on the farm. Minnie and Mimi (Toggenburg crosses, born 2016), Hope (Minnie’s daughter, 2017) and Rosie (Saanen cross, born 2018) are cheeky and playful, and love nothing more than a good cuddle and having their photo taken by their adoring fans!
Sheep
Up by the wishing tree, you’ll find our two sheep groups. Our older girls are all Jacobs sheep, a piebald, horned breed commonly found in the UK. Our group are all at least eight years old, and have been providing wool for the farm each year. Keep an eye out and you’ll see it being used in our hanging planters, and in the gardens as a natural and cruelty-free slug repellent! Workshops on the farm have also used the wool to make bags and pouches, and local spinner groups have created amazing jumpers, hats, and more!
Our younger girls are all orphan lambs, brought in from a large sheep farm in 2024. Nellie, Susie, Dottie, and Mavis are all mule crosses, and have been hand-reared on the farm. Bright and friendly, they love cuddles and face scritches, and are even learning to walk on a halter!
Pigs
Our snoozy, snore-y, gorgeous girls are Betty and Wilma, Oxford Sandy and Black pigs that came top us in 2018 as seven week olds Their birthday is June 19th, and they always get to celebrate with extra treats of fresh fruit and veggies! Betty and Wilma greet the staff very noisily in the morning, reminding everyone that they are first on the breakfast roster!
Cow
Shirley is a firm favourite among our visitors! An Aberdeen Angus cross born in 2010, Shirley has been with us since she was six months old. She loves the sunshine, fresh grass, and hanging out with her besties Betty, Wilma, Nora, and Dora.
Donkeys
Dora (born 2007) and her daughter Nora (born 2011) are Irish Donkeys from the wonderful Donkey Sanctuary. The girls are on long-term foster from the sanctuary, and will be with us until it is time for them to retire to a peaceful field with other donkey pals. Until then, they are bringing joy to the staff and visitors with their cheeky personalities and soft faces.
