Sunday 28th July • 10am-5pm
Kentish Town City Farm is creating an exemplar balcony to demonstrate how it is possible to grow a diversity of foods and herbs in a very small space. This permablitz will be building the wicking planters for the balcony, which will have a water reservoir at the base, providing water directly to the roots of the plants. The planters will be made from recycled pallet collars to show how they can be made cheaply and they will be small enough to show how they can be portable for people who are renting.
Mini-workshops
During the permablitz you will be able to learn simple carpentry skills: sawing, drilling etc; how to build planters and how to construct a wicking reservoir.
Choosing plants for a small space
There will be a workshop about the planting design for the planters, explaining why the plants were chosen: their benefits to the person growing them and to wildlife as well. This workshop will be given by Susannah Hall, the Garden Educator at Kentish Town City Farm, who won Camden in Bloom Best Mini-Garden in 2021 for her balcony with 50 different plants, quails and a wormery.
